Triangle Community Works

History and Mission

TCW was founded in 1994 as an all-volunteer organization named Coalition 807 by a group of concerned individuals representing several Triangle area lesbian, gay, AIDS, and LGBT-allied support organizations. The Coalition sought to develop a network of groups and individuals in Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Durham to work collaboratively, share resources and exchange ideas to maximize the impact of efforts taken on by individual people and organizations. By the end of 1995, the Coalition expanded the vision of the coalition to include the eventual creation of a community center, and took the new name of Triangle Community Works (TCW).

The mission of Triangle Community Works is to be a leading organization in the Research Triangle Area for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersexed (LGBTI) related services, resources, and activities; to work with individuals and organizations to build supportive coalitions; and to provide a facilitating framework to address emerging community-identified needs. Basically, TCW works to create and support a healthy environment for members of LGBTI communities through a broad community-based strategy to provide services and programs that build connections to all of our communities.

Current Programs and Activities

As an all-volunteer organization, TCW is committed to providing valuable and life enriching services to individuals and organizations in the Triangle and surrounding areas. TCW meets the identified needs of LGBTI communities primarily through its variety of programs and key communication services. Recent efforts have focused on bringing the Triangle’s LGBTI and allied leaders together for networking and for training sessions on basic skills they need to help their individual organizations succeed.

The Gay and Lesbian Helpline – providing peer-counseling, referrals and general information about the LGBTI community over the telephone and Internet chat, Sunday through Thursday from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM

A Safer Place Youth Network (ASPYN) – providing programs and services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersexed, questioning and allied youth (LGBTIQ&A) ages 13 to 23, and developing training for adults to make Wake County a safe, healthy, and life affirming place for LGBTIQ&A Youth

HealthWorks – developing health education and resources for LGBTI communities and health professionals

SeminarWorks – providing an assortment of seminar and workshop programs designed to meet a variety of health, social and educational needs of LGBTI communities

Community Leadership Summits - bringing leaders of LGBTI and allied organizations and businesses together to encourage collaborative efforts, dialogue, and reductions in redundant programming, and to provide the educational tools needed for success, such as training in fundraising and marketing

TCW is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization which relies solely on donations and grants for its funding. Please give a tax-deductible donation today!
